There will be a whole host of funny films plus a panel discussion relating to comedy in short film and animation.
The ha-ha line-up will include… Will Anderson's chain smoking birds, 12Foot6 have some MugShorts to show, there will be at least two brand new Dog Judo episodes, Ross Plaskow will present meat and dinosaurs and we urge you to decide which you like best. We’ll throw in some vintage Mickey Mouse, a gem from Kirsten Lepore and some death poetry from Joseph Bichard. Alexandra Hetmerova will show us how love is possible in a swimming pool, Anatole’s Island will make an appearance directed by Chris Shepherd and Amer Nazri, written by Philip O’Shea and narrated by Peter Serafinowicz. Dave Anderson & David Lopez Retamero's Bastard Bunny will get massively pissed off with one thing or another, Andy Martin's aliens might freak out, Tom Rourke's Fishy Tale won't teach one stupid fish a thing, Monika Forsberg will explain why Mummy Needs Gin, Luiz Stockler wonders why Zinadene Zedane did what he did, and vintage Angry Kid will make an appearance thanks to Darren Walsh. Try not to get too freaked out by Kristofer Ström's evil little girl, enjoy a handful classic Popeye sketches, as well as David Shrigley's life observations and we're proud to announce that the family of Bob Godfrey, the legend behind Roobarb & Custard, have allowed us to show his short - DIY Cartoon Kit.
Our Q&A panelists will include director of 12Foot6 Dave Anderson, filmmaker/director Chris Shepherd and fellow 12Foot6-er and the writer of Dog Judo Andrew Kelleher.
Get your tickets quick because it will sell out quick sticks!
Our Bar Shorts night was a tremendous success apart from Dave locking Lisa’s camera in hotel safe and forgetting the combination. Not deterred, we took some rubbish photos of classy people enjoying the Best of British line-up. Lots of people came including Rockstar Games rocker Steve Bliss and artist Jon Burgerman.
(We had to stop taking photos at this point because Soho House don’t allow that sort of thing. Just as well eh?)
Highlights of the evening were Joey Pantoliano in Dog Judo on home turf. Tom Jennings' DJ Yoda video for ‘U No Likey Like That’ - played at end - caused the crowd to go wild. New York has been embracing David Shrigley for a while noe so you can imagine how well Everything went down.
On Monday 11 June there’s more than just films and drinks at Bar Shorts. There’s football.
England v France will be screened before the event at 5pm. Entrance is free plus the bar is offering 4 Tiger or Sol beers for £10 during the game. And there’s food from Big Apple Hot Dogs. Of course animators and footballers are not always natural bed fellows.
Bar Shorts opens as normal at 7pm with films starting around 7.30pm. There’s new Bob films from Darren Walsh, Headless Drummer by David Shrigley, Intermission by Robert Popper & Peter Serafinowicz, Happy Clapper by Tom Marshall and a whole lot more. Plus the first chance to see Grace Petrie’s Rise directed by our very own Chris Shepherd & Rod Main. Grace Petrie will then perform a live acoustic set.
All this for free. Wow. Hope to see you there at XOYO, 32-37 Cowper Street, London EC2A 4AP.
